Miscarriage

A miscarriage is when a baby dies in the womb before the 20th week of pregnancy. Out of 100 women who know they’re pregnant, 10 to 15 will have a miscarriage. On the other hand, that means that 85 to 90 percent of pregnancies will succeed. Gene defects that don’t sustain life are the most common cause of miscarriage. Most miscarriages happen before the 12th week, but after the 12th week the chances of having a miscarriage are much lower and only occur in 1 to 5 out of 100 pregnancies. Most women who have had a miscarriage go on later to have a problem free pregnancy and bring a healthy baby into the world.
